This blog starts as an experiment on Diversity, Tolerance
and the fostering of the Different.
While we can utilize our differences to constructive purposes, by following
an opposite agenda of divisiveness or discrimination we are led to the destructive.
Please do not come here to hate, denigrate, deny and derogate. It is clearly
not the place for you if you hold such an intent. Otherwise, you voices are
welcome.
Through examples from art, literature, music, history,
philosophy, technology, socio-political and cultural life in the States and
abroad, I will attempt to curate here a space for free-flowing ideas designed
around pluralism, inclusiveness, multiculturalism, non-partisanism, non-religiousness.
As much as the focus is on diversity, it is also on subversity. The
latter is not an official entry in the dictionary, yet as pun I use it to signify a
subversive attempt to turn on its head that which we consider old and
regressive - backwards social concepts and obsolete traditions, social misconceptions
of the kind "must" and "don't", as well as the judgmental
and prejudicial mode of thinking still exhibited in cultures across the world.
Finally, the name is to be understood quite literally - I
really tend to do lots of good thinking and productive writing while folding
laundry - and quite metaphorically, in the sense that many stones will be turned
and many uncomfortable truths will be
exposed, i.e. airing some dirty
laundry. Ironically, it is also a tongue- in- cheek joke for the feminist and proletariat in
you : what worthwhile thoughts or wisdom
can a person doing laundry bestow upon the world, wink, wink?
Welcome.
